Domaine de Charron - Vintage 2008 - Bas Armagnac - 50.5%
The Domaine de Charron is ideally located in Perquie, in the prestigious Landes, the historic cradle of Armagnac. Founded at the beginning of the 20th century, it benefits from a unique heritage with Baco vines planted by the great-grandmother of Jacques and Claude Lartigue. They played a crucial role in saving these precious vines from uprooting in 1985 and initiating the artisanal production of Armagnac, a symbol of authentic and local ancestral know-how. After Jacques retired in 2015, his son-in-law Jean-Philippe took over with a modern vision, combining tradition and innovation to best showcase this exceptional terroir.
The vines, aged between 35 and 65 years, reflect rigorous and passionate care, made possible by the small controlled area of 2 hectares. Natural grass cover is carefully maintained, promoting biodiversity and preserving the microbiological richness of the soils, an essential condition for sustainable and environmentally respectful viticulture. Vinification at Domaine de Charron is carried out naturally, without any addition of oenological products, to obtain a must rich in acidity and low in alcohol content, ideal for traditional and quality distillation.
Since 1985, mobile distillation using a traveling still has been practiced directly on the property, but it was in 2012 that the estate acquired its own still dating from 1940, a unique piece that enhances the character of the eaux-de-vie. Aging takes place entirely in new barrels from one of the last artisan coopers in the region, Gilles Bartholomo, based in Le Frêche, in the Landes. This local collaboration ensures optimal refinement, revealing the aromatic complexity and gustatory richness of the Armagnacs. The eaux-de-vie of the estate are bottled in the cellar after a minimum aging of 10 years, thus guaranteeing exceptional quality.
2008 is unanimously recognized as a very good vintage in Armagnac, offering a perfect balance between aromatic power and finesse on the palate, making it a reference for enthusiasts and collectors.
