LA FAVORITE - Aged Rum - Heart of Rum - 40%
La Favorite is one of the last independent distilleries in Martinique, alongside Neisson, and embodies the authenticity and heritage of Martinican agricole rum. Founded in 1842 on the remains of an old sugar factory called Les Jambettes, it took the name La Favorite in 1851. In 1909, Henri Dormoy acquired it and initiated significant improvements to transform the sugar factory into a modern distillery while respecting traditional methods. After a halt in activity due to the gambling misadventures of Albert Dormoy, Henri's son, La Favorite closed its doors around 1938. It was only in 1956 that his younger brother, André Dormoy, revived the activity by completely renovating the establishment.
Today, La Favorite operates a 60-hectare sugarcane plantation and also sources from passionate local small producers. It runs entirely on a historic steam engine, built in 1906, still operational and a living testimony to unique expertise. The vesou (cane wine), obtained from cane juice fermented over an exceptionally long period of up to 72 hours, is distilled in two distinct Creole columns: one entirely copper, in operation since 1957, and the other, more modern, dating from 1986. This double distillation gives the rum an unparalleled aromatic richness and remarkable finesse.
Heart of Rum is an exceptional agricole rum, aged nearly 4 years in rigorously selected oak barrels and kept under tropical climate in the heart of Martinique. This prolonged aging allows the rum to develop deep aromatic complexity as well as a silky roundness, offering a perfect balance between power and elegance. This aged rum is ideal for tasting in ti’punch or to enhance your aperitifs and cocktails, making every moment a true sensory journey into the heart of Martinican terroir.
