La Favorite is one of the last iconic independent distilleries of Martinique, alongside the renowned Neisson distillery. Founded in 1842 on the ruins of an old sugar factory called Les Jambettes, it was renamed La Favorite in 1851, establishing itself as a jewel of Martinican agricultural and industrial heritage. From 1909, Henri Dormoy, the new owner, significantly improved the infrastructure, permanently transforming the sugar factory into a renowned distillery. However, events linked to the passion of Albert Dormoy – Henri's son – for gambling led to the temporary halt of production starting in 1938. It was only in 1956 that André Dormoy, his younger brother, relaunched and completely renovated the establishment, ensuring the continuity of this authentic house. Today, La Favorite cultivates sugar cane on about 60 hectares while closely collaborating with many small local producers, thus enhancing an exceptional terroir. Remarkably, it continues to operate a steam engine from 1906, a true technical treasure and a living testimony of ancestral know-how. The vesou, or cane wine fermented for many hours (up to 72h), is carefully distilled in 2 distinct Creole columns, one entirely made of copper operating since 1957, combined with a more recent column dating from 1986, thus guaranteeing a rum of incomparable quality and finesse.
Plaisance is a special and prestigious cuvée launched in 2023, highlighting the excellence of Martinican agricultural heritage. This single-plot rum comes exclusively from the Plaisance plot, strategically located in the commune of Lamentin, at the heart of the region's most fertile lands. An exceptional single-variety rum, it is made from the Blue Cane (B69.566), a rare and sought-after variety for its unique aromas. The harvest took place in June 2024, followed by controlled distillation in July 2024, then meticulous bottling in October 2024. This exceptional vintage, available at Clos des Spiritueux, embodies the quintessence of Martinican tradition and will delight rum enthusiasts seeking authentic and refined flavors.
