L’Habitation Clément is located in the heart of François, in Martinique, an island renowned for its unique expertise in exceptional agricole rum. Founded in 1887 by Homère Clément, a prominent figure and mayor of the François commune, the distillery draws its roots from the ancient history of the Domaine de l’Acajou, a 43-acre estate considered one of the jewels of Martinican sugarcane plantations. Facing a severe sugar crisis, Homère Clément reinvented local tradition by converting this plantation into a distillery producing one of the best agricole rums in the world. His major innovation was to press the first fresh sugarcane juice to distill a pure and aromatic rum, inspired by the ancestral techniques of the great Armagnacs from southwestern France. Today, despite the closure of the historic distillery, production continues with Clément rum distilled at the Distillerie du Simon nearby, then carefully aged in the cellars of Habitation Clément. Owned by GBH since 1986, this emblematic brand embodies excellence and Martinican heritage in every bottle.
