LA FAVORITE - Cuvée La Flibuste - Vintage 2001 - 40%
La Favorite is one of the last independent family-owned distilleries in Martinique, alongside the renowned Neisson. Founded in 1842 on the remains of the former Les Jambettes sugar factory, it took the name La Favorite in 1851. In 1909, Henri Dormoy bought it and transformed it, modernizing the sugar factory into a true agricultural rum distillery. After a halt in production around 1938 due to some misadventures, production resumed thanks to André Dormoy, who thoroughly renovated it in 1956 to make La Favorite a Martinican benchmark.
Today, La Favorite cultivates sugarcane on more than 60 hectares and works closely with small local producers. The distillery continues to use a historic steam engine from 1906, ensuring an artisanal and authentic production method. The vesou, obtained after a long 72-hour fermentation, is distilled in two Creole columns: the first, a vintage copper column (1957), and the second, more modern (1986), allowing the creation of exceptional rums while respecting Martinican tradition.
The Cuvée La Flibuste embodies the excellence of Hors d’Âge agricultural rum. It is carefully aged in oak barrels that previously held Cognac, where it develops remarkable aromatic complexity: silky tannins, notes of roasting, vanilla, candied fruits, and an intense finish of licorice. Each vintage, including 2001, is an invitation to discover the authenticity and craftsmanship of Martinique.
