The Montebello rum is an exceptional agricole rum carefully crafted by the renowned Carrère distillery, located in Petit-Bourg in Guadeloupe. This emblematic distillery, better known as the Montebello distillery — a name given to its rums since 1975 in homage to its original neighborhood — has a rich history beginning in 1930, founded by the Dolomie family. Today, since December 2011, management is passionately led by Grégory and Dominique Marsolle, who continue the family legacy with innovation and respect for traditions.
Concerned about its environmental impact, the Montebello distillery is a pioneer in ecological practices, committed to a comprehensive recycling process of waste from sugarcane crushing. It notably uses dry bagasse, the natural residue of the cane, as a renewable energy source, powering the steam production necessary for the operation of the presses.
To guarantee a product of exceptional quality, the distillery selects only hand-harvested canes from the rich and fertile volcanic terroirs of Petit-Bourg, Goyave, Basse-Terre, Lamentin, and Sainte-Rose. Montebello is also among the last distilleries in the Caribbean to use traditional steam machines, thus offering an authentic and powerful rum.
This unique cuvée was born from a prestigious collaboration between the Burgundian estate François Carillon and the Montebello distillery, merging the French wine expertise with the art of Guadeloupe agricole rum. This 11-year-old aged agricole rum was barreled in August 2010 for exclusive aging in barrels that previously contained a prestigious wine from the renowned appellation Chassagne-Montrachet. This dual heritage gives the rum a complex and refined aromatic profile, blending Burgundian elegance with authentic Caribbean character. It was carefully bottled in July 2022 at an optimal alcohol content of 47.1%, reserved for discerning enthusiasts.
