LA FAVORITE - Plaisance - Blue Cane - 51%
La Favorite is one of the last iconic independent distilleries in Martinique, alongside Neisson. Founded in 1842 on the remains of an old sugar factory called Les Jambettes, it was renamed La Favorite in 1851. In 1909, upon its acquisition by Henri Dormoy, several major improvements were made to transform the old sugar factory into an efficient distillery. After a halt due to personal events affecting Albert Dormoy, his son, La Favorite's activity stopped in 1938. It was only in 1956 that his younger brother, André, restarted production by completely renovating the distillery, now recognized for its traditional know-how and the exceptional quality of its rums.
Today, La Favorite cultivates sugar cane on an area of about 60 hectares and also sources from small local producers. The distillery continues a rare tradition by using an ancestral steam engine dating from 1906, a true industrial heritage still in operation. The vesou (cane juice), obtained by a long fermentation of the cane juice that can last up to 72 hours, is distilled in two Creole columns: a fully copper column in service since 1957, and a more modern column dating from 1986. This double distillation guarantees the perfect balance between aromatic finesse and the power of the rum.
Plaisance is an exceptional cuvée launched in 2023. This exclusive single-plot rum comes from the Plaisance plot, located in the commune of Lamentin in Martinique. Monovarietal, it is made from the precious Blue Cane (B69.566), harvested in July 2023 and distilled in August of the same year. The rum was bottled as early as October 2023, with a limited edition of only 3,200 bottles, highlighting its rare character sought after by lovers of authentic and artisanal spirits.
