RHUM CLEMENT - L'initial - Column Still - 71.40% ABV
L’Habitation Clément is an iconic treasure located in François, in the heart of Martinique. Founded in 1887 by the visionary Homère Clément, this historic rum distillery was born from a bold bet during the sugar crisis. At that time, Homère Clément, then mayor of François and a highly respected figure in the Martinican community, acquired the prestigious Domaine de l’Acajou, a 43-acre plantation recognized as one of the best sugar lands on the island.
Despite facing a declining sugar economy and bankruptcy, Homère Clément radically transformed this estate. He invested in intensive sugarcane cultivation, not to produce refined sugar, but to extract a juice rich in aromas. His revolutionary method consisted of pressing fresh, top-quality cane to distill an exceptional agricole rum, preserving the purity and complexity of the flavors.
Inspired by his studies in Paris and the great expertise of Armagnac master distillers in southwestern France, Homère Clément developed a unique process that today makes Rhum Agricole world-renowned. After the death of his son Charles Clément, the house was led by George-Louis and Jean-José Clément before being acquired in 1986 by GBH, who remains the current owner. The original distillery has been transformed into a prestigious museum, while rum production continues at the Distillerie du Simon, located a few kilometers away, where the rum is distilled and then aged in the famous Clément cellars.
L’Initial is the very first white column still rum from this illustrious house. Bottled at a powerful 71.4% ABV, it undergoes maturation in large oak vats that give it unparalleled aromatic intensity and rich taste, ideal for lovers of authentic and robust rums.
