Located in the north of Martinique, in the heart of the exceptional terroirs of Habitation Bellevue, on the majestic slopes of Montagne Pelée, this distillery benefits from a unique humid tropical climate and volcanic soils of incomparable richness. These natural conditions offer an ideal and fertile environment, perfectly suited to the cultivation of an exceptional sugar cane, a true agricultural treasure of Martinique. Since 1914, when Gustave Crassous de Médeuil acquired the J.M Rum Distillery from the founding family Jean-Marie Martin, the Crassous de Médeuil heirs have passionately and rigorously perpetuated the tradition of excellence and authenticity of J.M rums, symbols of Martinican know-how.
The sugar canes, rigorously cultivated and selected, are pressed less than an hour after harvest in traditional mills, thus guaranteeing a cane juice of exceptional freshness and aromatic richness. J.M stands out among the few distilleries in Martinique to incorporate natural spring water, drawn directly from Montagne Pelée, into its production process. This pure water, naturally rich in essential minerals, plays a decisive role in the complexity and finesse of J.M rums. Distillation has always been done in two Creole copper columns, respecting traditional methods, which give the rums their depth and unique character. Furthermore, the barrels used are carefully selected and then charred before use to reveal the full aromatic palette during aging. Each year, the cellar master performs a meticulous topping up of the barrels with rums of equivalent age to preserve the typicity, balance, and harmony unique to each vintage.
The Dame Jeanne No.2 is a prestigious blend of very old vintages from the oldest agricultural rums of the house. This exclusive edition brings together the vintages 2000, 2001, 2013, and 2014, each having benefited from prolonged aging ranging from 8 to 22 years in carefully selected barrels, resulting in a cask-strength bottling that highlights all the richness, complexity, and aromatic depth of these exceptional rums.
