The Distillerie Castan is ideally located in Villeneuve-sur-Vère, in the Tarn department, symbolizing ancestral know-how and exceptional artisanal production. Since 1941, the family history began with Gilbert and his son Jacques, itinerant distillers who traveled through the villages of Tarn and Aveyron with their mobile still, passionately distilling local fruits. A forgotten tradition that Sébastien Castan, representing the third generation, has reinvented by fully dedicating himself to crafting an exceptional whisky. Owner of the surrounding lands, he carefully cultivates various cereals in rotation, prioritizing the local production of brewing barley, essential for the final quality of his whiskies. Since 2016, the family farm has been certified organic, guaranteeing a natural product, respectful of the environment and rich in authentic flavors. The barley grains are then sent to a rigorously selected external malt house, while the water used, drawn from 110 meters deep, brings unique purity and mineral richness. Distillation is carried out with a red copper still dating from 1929, passed down by grandfather Gilbert Castan, and carefully modernized to combine tradition and technology. The first Tarn Whisky was distilled in February 2010 and bottled in April 2013, marking the beginning of an emblematic French whisky adventure.
Vilanova Gost is matured exclusively in American oak barrels that previously contained Bourbon, giving this Single Malt delicate, round, and vanilla notes, typical of the finest whiskies with character.
