Karukera is an iconic rum distillery located in Sainte-Marie, in the heart of the beautiful island of Guadeloupe, on the prestigious estate of the Marquisat de Sainte-Marie. In 2005, François Longueteau took over the reins of the family agricultural estate as well as the Espérance distillery, situated at the center of the estate, with the ambition to preserve and enhance the ancestral heritage. The distillery then mainly produced two renowned ranges: white rum and amber rum, bottled under the iconic brands Mon Repos and Longueteau, which have earned recognition from lovers of quality agricole rum. Furthermore, Grégoire Hayot, an engineer by training and then financial director at the Damoiseau distillery, played a key role in industrial modernization and the construction of the aging cellar in 2005. Driven by the desire to develop high-level aged agricole rum production, Grégoire sought a distillery capable of ensuring perfect control over the freshness of its local sugar cane. A natural collaboration arose between Grégoire Hayot and François Longueteau, who then became his partner. Together, they founded the Marquisat de Sainte-Marie company, a symbol of excellence and innovation in the Guadeloupe rum world. November 2, 2006, marked a major milestone with the first aging of Karukera, using 87 barrels of 310 liters supplied by the famous cooper Seguin Moreau. In 2007, the construction of the modern cellar included a dedicated aging area, a white rum finishing workshop, a packaging space, storage warehouses, a rigorous laboratory, as well as a tourist reception area with a shop, thus enhancing the overall experience around Karukera rum.

This exceptional rum results from the harmonious marriage of two carefully selected barrels. After more than 3 years of aging in high-quality French oak barrels, the two best casks were discerningly chosen by the cellar master to be refined for an additional 3 years in sherry casks, thus giving this rum complex aromas and incomparable gustatory richness. This double maturation offers a perfect balance between the strength of French oak and the fruity sweetness of sherry, for a refined and original result. Bottled in 2017, this exceptional vintage was limited to only 342 bottles, making each bottle a rare and coveted piece for collectors and connoisseurs.
