La Favorite is one of the last authentic independent distilleries in Martinique, renowned worldwide for its traditional expertise, alongside the famous Neisson distillery. Founded in 1842 on the remains of an old sugar factory called Les Jambettes, it was renamed La Favorite in 1851, quickly becoming a pillar of Martinican agricultural rum production. In 1909, the acquisition by Henri Dormoy marked a key milestone with significant technical improvements that transformed the sugar factory into a truly modern distillery of the time. After a period of halt due to financial difficulties and Albert Dormoy's, Henri's son, passion for gambling, production was temporarily suspended in the late 1930s. It was only in 1956, under the leadership of André Dormoy, that the distillery was revived with a complete renovation, thus perpetuating the family heritage and the Martinican tradition of agricultural rum.
Today, La Favorite spans 60 hectares dedicated to sugarcane cultivation, grown using environmentally respectful methods, and also sources from small passionate local producers, thus guaranteeing exceptional quality and diversity. The distillery still operates almost artisanally thanks to a historic steam engine dating from 1906, a symbol of technical heritage and the continuity of ancestral know-how. The vesou, or cane wine, is obtained from long-fermented cane juice—up to 72 hours—to reveal complex aromas. This juice is then distilled in two traditional Creole columns, one made entirely of copper used since 1957, and a more recent one dating from 1986, ensuring precise distillation respectful of the unique aromatic profiles of Martinican agricultural rum.
La Favorite Vintage 2014 is an exceptional aged agricultural rum Hors d’Âge, matured from October 2014 in 8 carefully selected ex-Bourbon barrels, richly revealing the complexity and depth typical of great vintages. After eight years of meticulous aging, this rum was bottled in January 2023 in a limited edition of 5,000 bottles, reflecting a rarity and premium quality sought after by enthusiasts and collectors worldwide.
