LA FAVORITE - Exploration No.5 - 51.5%
La Favorite is one of the last iconic independent distilleries of Martinique, alongside Neisson, renowned for the exceptional quality of its agricole rums. Founded in 1842 on the remains of an old sugar factory called Les Jambettes, it was renamed La Favorite in 1851. In 1909, under the leadership of Henri Dormoy, the sugar factory was transformed into a distillery with several major technical improvements. After a halt in 1938 due to financial difficulties caused by Albert Dormoy, Henri's son, La Favorite was revived in 1956 thanks to the commitment of his younger brother André, who undertook a complete and modern renovation of the distillery.
Today, La Favorite cultivates sugarcane on more than 60 hectares while carefully sourcing from small local producers, thus promoting an authentic production respectful of Martinican agricultural traditions. The distillery still operates entirely thanks to a century-old steam engine dating from 1906, a true preserved technical treasure. The vesou, fermented for up to 72 hours, is carefully distilled in two distinct Creole columns, one made of copper and in service since 1957, and a more recent one built in 1986, ensuring unique quality and character in each distillation.
