The prestigious Saint-James Distillery, a symbol of Martinican tradition, is located in Martinique, an island renowned for its exceptional agricole rums. Founded thanks to the vision of Reverend Edmond Lefébure, a passionate chemist and Superior Father at the Brothers of Charity convent, the adventure began with the recognition of the unique potential of eaux-de-vie derived from local sugarcane. Quickly, he undertook the artisanal production of this exceptional rum. In 1973, Saint-James' reputation grew with the acquisition by the Cointreau company, which centralized production in Sainte-Marie. Since 2003, the distillery has belonged to the La Martiniquaise group, guaranteeing preserved quality and authenticity.
Saint James rum is made from the fermentation followed by distillation in a Creole column of pure sugarcane juice, a traditional method emblematic of the quality of Martinique's agricole rums benefiting from the Controlled Designation of Origin (A.O.C). This technique gives each rum a rich and complex aromatic palette, ideal for prolonged aging in carefully selected oak barrels. The strict process excludes any addition of sweeteners, ensuring full respect for the rum's natural character. Today, the distillery is committed to a dynamic of circular and sustainable economy, reducing its environmental impact through eco-responsible practices: local sugarcane cultivation limiting CO2 emissions, reuse of bagasse as fuel to power the distillation columns and mills, production of green electricity with a turbo-alternator, and valorization of vinasse for field irrigation.
The unique cuvée Les Éphémères Lot No.6 is a very limited edition of only 4,910 bottles. This exceptional agricole rum, from the 2006 vintage, was aged in 200-liter American oak barrels starting December 12, 2006, then bottled at barrel proof on November 8, 2022, offering incomparable aromatic intensity and mouth power, ideal for lovers of rare and authentic rums.
