RENEGADE - Studies - New Bacolet - 55%
Renegade Rum Distillery represents the most innovative project of Mark Reynier, the craftsman behind the iconic revival of Bruichladdich Islay Single Malt whisky as well as the prestigious Waterford distillery, renowned for enhancing the authentic terroirs of Ireland. This spirits enthusiast carefully chose Grenada for its exceptional diversity, offering a wide range of altitudes, varied microclimates, and a richness of unique soils. In close collaboration with the agricultural partners of CaneCo, he has cultivated an impressive array of sugarcane varieties adapted to the island's multiple terroirs. This approach has enabled many generations of Grenadians, whether skilled experts or enthusiastic amateurs, to acquire new skills, explore the advanced use of modern machinery, and transform certain areas of the island into highly qualitative sugarcane farms.
New Bacolet, within the exclusive Studies range, is made from a rare variety named Lacalome Red (B80689), meticulously harvested between January 11 and 21, 2021, on the prestigious Goat Hill field of the New Bacolet farm located on the renowned clay terroir of Upper Combe. The artisanal distillation took place on January 21 and 22, 2021, carried out in a traditional still. The rum was then carefully aged in a balanced blend composed of 19 first-fill American oak barrels measuring 200 liters, from the Kelvin Cooperage house (76%), as well as 6 French oak barrels of 225 liters from the famous Taransaud cooperage (24%). This meticulous process allowed the production of a limited edition of 6,000 exceptional bottles.
