RENEGADE - Etudes - Pearls - 55%
Renegade Rum Distillery represents the most recent and innovative project of Mark Reynier, the recognized expert behind the iconic revival of Bruichladdich Islay Single Malt whisky as well as the Waterford distillery, renowned for its exceptional work around Irish terroirs. Mark Reynier strategically chose Grenada for its exceptional geographical diversity including a wide range of altitudes, varied microclimates, and rich soils, to maximize the quality and authenticity of its rums. In close partnership with CaneCo, the local agricultural leaders, many varieties of sugarcane have been cultivated across the island, taking advantage of the different terroirs. This collaboration also contributes to sustainable development, as both older and younger farmers, as well as passionate enthusiasts, have acquired new skills, mastered the latest production technologies, and transformed several regions of the island into highly qualitative and sustainable sugarcane farms.
Pearls, from the prestigious Etudes range, is made from a rare variety named Yellow Lady (B89447) carefully harvested between January 25 and 29, 2021 on the Grapefruit field, located on the Pearls farm established on the clay terroir of Flats. The meticulous distillation took place on January 29 and 30, 2021 in a traditional still, ensuring the purity and aromatic complexity of the rum. Subsequently, the rum was aged in a carefully selected blend of prestigious barrels: 11 first-fill American oak barrels of 200 liters from Kelvin Cooperage (50%), accompanied by 7 virgin American oak barrels of 200 liters also from Kelvin Cooperage (32%), and complemented by 4 French oak barrels of 225 liters from Taransaud (18%). This harmonious aging offers the rum a unique aromatic richness and remarkable complexity on the palate. In total, 6,000 bottles were produced, each embodying the excellence and authenticity of a rare and prestigious rum.
