SAINT JAMES - Single Cask 2001 - Wooden Box - 43.1%
The Saint-James Distillery is an iconic reference located in Martinique, an island worldwide renowned for its exceptional agricultural rums. Its history begins with Reverend Edmond Lefébure, a leading figure in the world of chemistry and Superior Father at the Brothers of Charity convent, who early on perceived the immense potential of eaux-de-vie derived from local sugarcane. Driven by his passion, he personally undertook distillation near his hospital, thus laying the foundations of a unique heritage. Since then, the Saint-James saga has continued, notably in 1973 when the famous Cointreau house acquired the brand, centralizing production in Sainte-Marie. In 2003, the distillery joined the La Martiniquaise group, its current owner, guaranteeing a tradition blended with innovation.
The Saint James rum is made from a rigorous fermentation followed by distillation in a Creole column of pure freshly pressed sugarcane juice. This traditional method, recognized and labeled A.O.C agricultural rum of Martinique, gives Saint James rums a rich, complex aromatic palette perfectly suited for aging in oak barrels. Free from any added sweeteners, this rum meets the strictest standards of purity and authenticity. Committed to a sustainable and eco-responsible economy, the distillery works to reduce its environmental impact: the sugarcane plantations located nearby limit CO2 emissions related to transport, while the bagasse, the fibrous residue of the cane after juice extraction, is used as fuel for steam production used in the distillation columns and mills. Furthermore, part of this bagasse is either composted or converted into electricity through a turbo-alternator. The vinasse, a liquid by-product of distillation, is treated and recycled to sustainably irrigate the sugarcane fields.
This exceptional aged agricultural rum underwent meticulous aging starting on October 29, 2001, in a single cask number #095-10-01 with a capacity of 200 liters, made of Quercus Alba oak, known for its superior quality in refining aromas. Bottling, carried out on May 25, 2016, guarantees a perfect balance between maturity and character.
This rare gem is offered in an elegant wooden box signed Clos des Spiritueux, a mark of quality and exclusivity, ideal for collectors and lovers of unique rums seeking authenticity and finesse.
