The prestigious history of the Assier family in Martinique dates back to 1710, when Jean Assier, a young lawyer from Montpellier, arrived on the island to serve under the Governor of Phélypeaux. Several centuries later, his direct descendant, Yves Assier de Pompignan, embarked on an ambitious and passionate project: the creation of a unique rum distillery, carrying the historical heritage and exceptional richness of the Martinican terroir. The acquisition of the Habitation du Simon, located in the heart of an exceptional terroir, combined with Yves Assier de Pompignan's unwavering passion for the lands of the Antilles, has allowed him to develop for several years an exceptional rum brand, brilliantly combining ancestral tradition and modern innovation.
In 2010, the decision was made to launch the project; a rigorous selection of great aged rums destined for exceptional blends then began. An aging cellar, equipped with barrels that previously contained Cognac, as well as an analysis laboratory, were established at the Habitation. The first selections, aged 6 to 11 years, were then refined in 320-liter French oak barrels to reveal their full aromatic complexity. At the same time, the search for a distillation process that was both innovative, high-quality, and respectful of traditional methods led Yves Assier to choose a copper Charentais still, complemented by a seven-plate column. The fermentation tanks were designed to ensure temperature control and allow long fermentations, essential for extracting cane wines rich in aromas. After a long and meticulous administrative process, authorization to open a distillery dedicated to Agricole Rums was finally granted on December 31, 2015. Work then began, installing the distillery in an 18th-century former sugar purging house nestled in the heart of the estate. After a decade of learning and reflection, the brand new A1710 distillery was inaugurated in December 2016 by Yves Assier de Pompignan and his dedicated team.
Tricentenaire is a refined blend bringing together five exceptional rums aged from 6 to 17 years, carefully refined in French oak casks to offer unparalleled aromatic richness and remarkable complexity.
