LA FAVORITE - Exploration No.3 - 49.8%
La Favorite is one of the last iconic independent distilleries in Martinique, alongside Neisson, offering unique expertise in agricultural rum. Founded in 1842 on the remains of an old sugar factory called Les Jambettes, it was renamed La Favorite in 1851. In 1909, Henri Dormoy acquired it and initiated major improvements to transform this traditional sugar factory into a modern and efficient distillery. Despite some setbacks linked to the gambling habits of Albert Dormoy, his son, which led to a temporary cessation of activity at the end of the 1930s, the distillery was revived in 1956 thanks to the intervention of his younger brother André, who undertook a complete renovation of the facilities.
Today, La Favorite still cultivates sugarcane on 60 dedicated hectares, complemented by meticulous sourcing from small passionate local producers, thus ensuring the quality and authenticity of its terroir. The distillery operates entirely thanks to a century-old steam engine, built in 1906, a true jewel of Martinican industrial heritage. The vesou, or cane wine, is extracted after a long fermentation of the cane juice up to 72 hours, then distilled in two distinct Creole columns: one entirely made of copper, operating since 1957, and the other, more recent, dating from 1986, combining tradition and modernity to reveal exceptional flavors.
Exploration No.3 is an exceptional amber rum, carefully aged in new French and American oak barrels, which gives it complex and balanced notes, rich in woody and spicy aromas. Aged since October 2020 and bottled in April 2022, this vintage embodies the pure and authentic expression of La Favorite's expertise, prized by lovers of rare and refined agricultural rums.
