The prestigious Plantation of Trois Rivières embodies a fundamental element of the rich historical heritage of Martinique, a true jewel of the French Antilles. Since 1660, Nicolas Fouquet, superintendent of King Louis XIV, acquired 2,000 hectares located in the south of the island, thus laying the foundations of a unique agricultural tradition. In 1785, Etienne Isaïe Marraud Des Grottes, an influential landowner from the north of the island, incorporated the lands of Trois Rivières and developed rum production alongside sugar cultivation. During the 18th and 19th centuries, the plantation specialized in sugarcane cultivation before dedicating itself exclusively, from the beginning of the 20th century, to the production of exceptional Agricole rum, renowned worldwide. The emblematic distillery was taken over by the B.B.S. company in 1994, also owner of the famous La Mauny rums. In 1996, Trois Rivières obtained the prestigious AOC label (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée martiniquaise), making it the only rum in the world to benefit from this official recognition of origin and quality. Its appellation pays tribute to the three mythical rivers – Oman, Bois d’Inde, and Saint Pierre – that irrigate the lush sugarcane fields, guaranteeing an exceptional terroir.
The rigorous artisanal manufacturing process begins with the harvest of sugarcane in February, the optimal time when sugar content reaches its peak maturity. The canes are cut and then crushed within 24 hours, and the vesou (cane juice) is then transferred to open vats for natural fermentation lasting 24 to 30 hours. This essential step, carried out using selected yeasts, transforms the vesou into a delicate cane wine. This wine is carefully distilled in a Creole column still, ensuring the purity and aromatic richness characteristic of agricole rums. The rums, aged for at least 3 years in traditional oak barrels of controlled capacity (never exceeding 650 liters), thus develop complex aromas and a perfect balance between power and finesse.
This exceptional extra-old rum is the result of a harmonious blend of three remarkable vintages: 2005, 2010, and 2015, offering a unique depth of flavor. Its aromatic richness, roundness, and persistence on the palate make it a must-have for discerning enthusiasts and connoisseurs of premium rums.
