Karukera is a prestigious distillery located in Sainte-Marie, in the heart of Guadeloupe, within the historic estate of the Marquisat de Sainte-Marie. In 2005, François Longueteau took over the family agricultural estate and the Espérance distillery, situated at the center of the Marquisat, with a firm determination to preserve an ancestral know-how and a unique family heritage. The distillery specializes in the refined production of white rums and amber rums, distributed under two emblematic brands that embody Guadeloupean excellence: the Mon Repos and Longueteau rums.

At the same time, Grégoire Hayot, an engineer by training and former financial director at Damoiseau, where he contributed to the modernization of facilities and the creation in 2005 of an innovative aging cellar, wished to energize the production of aged agricole rum in Guadeloupe. Concerned with ensuring optimal quality and impeccable freshness of sugarcane supply, he sought a distillery sharing these requirements. Thus, he naturally partnered with François Longueteau, giving birth to the company Marquisat de Sainte-Marie.

November 2, 2006, marked a key milestone with the first aging batch signed Karukera, using Longueteau distillates and 87 barrels of 310 liters supplied by the famous cooper Seguin Moreau. In 2007, Karukera inaugurated its modern cellar including areas dedicated to aging, refining white rum, bottling, and storage. This avant-garde production site also includes a quality control laboratory, a tourist reception area, and a shop dedicated to the discovery and promotion of exceptional rums.
