MONTEBELLO - 10 years - Vintage 2002 - 42%
The Montebello rum is an exceptional agricole rum produced by the renowned Carrère distillery located in Petit-Bourg in Guadeloupe, an iconic Caribbean island known for the quality of its rums. The Carrère distillery, more commonly called the Montebello distillery, takes its name from the historic district where it has been established since 1930, founded by the prestigious Dolomie family. Since December 2011, the family management has been brilliantly taken over by Grégory and Dominique Marsolle, who continue traditional expertise while innovating with responsible approaches.
Committed to a sustainable policy, the distillery launched in 2012 an ambitious process to recycle all residues from sugarcane crushing. It valorizes the dry bagasse – the fibrous residue of the cane – as a renewable energy source to power its steam machines and produce the steam necessary for the operation of the presses, thus reducing its ecological impact. To produce this unique rum, Montebello exclusively uses hand-harvested canes, from the exceptional volcanic terroirs of Petit-Bourg, Goyave, Basse-Terre, Lamentin, and Sainte-Rose. This traditional method guarantees optimal quality of fermentable sugars. Montebello is also one of the last distilleries in the Caribbean to continue the use of old steam machines, a precious testimony to its artisanal heritage.
This rare edition is the result of a masterful blend of agricole rums, patiently aged for 10 years in Bourbon barrels, giving this 2002 vintage a complex aromatic richness and remarkable elegance.
