Takamaka is an iconic distillery located in La Plaine Saint-André, on the east coast of Mahé in the Seychelles. Founded in 1792 by the Jorre de Saint Jorre family, La Plaine Saint-André was originally a vast plantation estate surrounded by lush exotic gardens. At its peak, this estate covered more than 24 hectares, playing a key role in the agricultural economy of the Seychelles in the early 20th century. It specialized in the cultivation of prestigious export products such as cinnamon, vanilla, coconut, and patchouli, destined for European markets. Over the centuries, La Plaine Saint-André has seen various uses: it served as a coconut mill, a national monument, a shipyard, a royal car garage, an ecomuseum, a restaurant, and even an art gallery. Despite a fire that destroyed it, the site was rebuilt but suffered neglect due to limited resources. In 2008, after a long campaign, the Distillerie Trois Frères obtained a 50-year lease, dedicated to a meticulous and passionate restoration of the estate over the following two years.
Pti Lakaz is a typical artisanal rum from the Seychelles, made using traditional methods. This cane rum is distilled in a pot still from four distinct types of barrels, including two barrels that previously held Port wine. It is skillfully blended with a molasses rum distilled both in pot still and column still, aged for three years in ex-Bourbon barrels. This blend is then enriched with an 8-year-old Bajan Foursquare molasses rum, bringing a unique aromatic complexity. This distillation and aging process gives Pti Lakaz a rich, refined, and authentically Seychellois flavor profile, perfect for lovers of exceptional rums.
