The prestigious history of the Assier family in Martinique begins in 1710, when a young lawyer from Montpellier, Jean Assier, settled on the island to serve the Governor of Phélypeaux. Several centuries later, his direct descendant, Yves Assier de Pompignan, embodies boldness and passion by initiating a unique project: the creation of a new exceptional rum distillery, steeped in history and the excellence of the Caribbean terroir. Through the acquisition of the Habitation du Simon, ideally located in the heart of an area of exceptional quality land, Yves Assier de Pompignan committed sustainably to enhancing his island and its riches, giving birth to a rum brand that brilliantly combines ancestral tradition and modern innovations.
In 2010, the project took a concrete turn with the careful selection of the best aged rums intended for blends. A maturation cellar was specially set up at the Habitation, incorporating exceptional barrels from Cognac aging as well as a rigorous control laboratory. The first selections, aged 6 to 11 years, continue their maturation in 320-liter French oak barrels, ensuring unparalleled aromatic complexity. At the same time, the search for an innovative distillation technique respectful of traditional know-how led Yves Assier to choose a copper Charentais still, combined with a seven-plate column. The use of fermentation tanks with regulated temperature allows long fermentations, essential to obtain cane wines with powerful and refined aromas. After a rigorous administrative phase, the official authorization to operate an Agricultural Rum distillery was granted on December 31, 2015. Construction of the distillery thus began within an old 18th-century sugar purging house, right in the heart of the estate. This ten-year work, combining learning and innovation, culminated in December 2016 with the official inauguration of the A1710 distillery, orchestrated by Yves Assier de Pompignan and his passionate team.
The A1710 rums are proudly produced using organic farming, made from sugar canes cultivated without chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, or any synthetic products. The canes come from a unique plot where two emblematic varieties grow: the Blue Cane and the Purple Cane, cultivated with environmental respect and preservation of authentic flavors.
This exceptional edition of La Perle Rare is made from rigorously selected organic pink reed sugar canes (B59-92), guaranteeing a final product of incomparable purity and aromatic richness.
