HSE - Very Old Rum - Special Reserve - VSOP - 45%
HSE (Habitation Saint Etienne) is an iconic distillery founded in 1863, originally known as Habitation La Maugée. Located in Martinique, this former sugar factory was transformed into a distillery by Amedée Aubery in 1882. This visionary industrialist modernized the facilities and harnessed the natural power of the Lézarde river to supply energy to the distillery, a source that is still used today to dilute the precious sugar cane juices, thus ensuring the authenticity and quality of the rum produced.
In 1994, the property was taken over by Yves and José Hayot after a difficult period marked by judicial recovery. They then undertook extensive renovation of the estate, preserving its historic charm. This property is classified as a Historic Monument, recognizing its heritage and cultural importance. Saint-Etienne rum is carefully distilled in a traditional Creole-style copper column still, within the prestigious Simon distillery, located in François, in the heart of Martinique.
This VSOP rum from HSE benefits from an exceptionally long aging in American white oak barrels, giving this very old rum an intense aromatic richness, remarkable complexity, and a unique finesse on the palate. Each sip reveals subtle notes of vanilla, spices, and caramel, reflecting the traditional Martiniquais know-how and the excellence of Clos des Spiritueux spirits.
