HSE (Habitation Saint Etienne), formerly known as Habitation La Maugée founded in 1863, is an iconic distillery of Martinique. Originally a Martinican sugar factory, it was transformed into a distillery by Amédée Aubery in 1882, a young visionary industrialist. He modernized the facilities and used hydraulic energy from the Lézarde river, which still powers the distillery today and is used to dilute sugar cane juices, thus ensuring eco-responsible and high-quality production.

In 1994, after judicial recovery, Yves and José Hayot took over the property with a commitment to preservation and modernization. They undertook significant renovation work on the estate, recently classified as a Historic Monument, thus enhancing the rich cultural and industrial heritage of Martinique. Saint-Etienne rum is distilled in a traditional Creole-style copper column, produced by the legendary Distillerie du Simon, located in François, Martinique, guaranteeing an artisanal method and authentic know-how.

The Cuvée of the Year 2018 is a rigorous selection of the most characteristic distillates of this exceptional year. Representing less than 1% of HSE's annual production, this rum benefits from two years of maturation, accompanied by slow controlled stirring and reduction.
