Takamaka is an iconic distillery located in La Plaine Saint-André, on the east coast of Mahé in the Seychelles. Founded by the Jorre de Saint Jorre family in 1792, La Plaine Saint-André was originally a vast agricultural estate with tropical charm, surrounded by exotic gardens. At its peak, this estate covered more than 24 hectares and played a key role in the local agricultural economy at the beginning of the 20th century, notably cultivating cinnamon, vanilla, coconut, and patchouli for export to Europe. Over the decades, La Plaine Saint-André has served multiple functions: coconut mill, national monument, shipyard, garage for the Seychellois royalty, eco-museum, restaurant, and even art gallery. Although it suffered a fire followed by reconstruction, the site experienced periods of neglect due to insufficient funding. In 2008, thanks to a determined four-year campaign, the Distillerie Trois Frères obtained a 50-year lease and dedicated two years to meticulous restoration, thus bringing this unique heritage back to life.
This exceptional white rum is made from natural sugarcane juice grown locally on the island of Mahé. Carefully distilled at La Plaine Saint-André, it has a high congeners content of 466.2 gr/hlpa, including 12.2 gr/hlpa of esters, which gives it aromatic richness and complexity. This is the very first edition of this exclusive white rum from the Seychelles offered by Habitation Velier, a true gem for lovers of rare and prestigious novelties.
