The Old Rums of Marie Galante - Bielle - Barrel Proof 2003 - 52.8%
The Bielle distillery, an iconic jewel of the French Antilles, is ideally located on the paradisiacal island of Marie-Galante. Originally founded in 1769 by Jean-Pierre Bielle, who cultivated coffee, it has evolved over time into a prestigious estate dedicated to producing exceptional rum. In 1826, Jean-Pierre Bielle's descendants launched a refinery-sugar factory operating on 53 hectares, laying the foundations of an ancestral rum-making tradition. However, rum production only began at the start of the 20th<\/sup>> century. After a period of abandonment following World War II, the property was purchased in 1955 by Paul Rameaux. In 1975, the SEDB (Société d’Exploitation de la Distillerie Bielle) took over, ensuring the modernization and sustainability of this distillery. Today, Bielle is recognized as one of the most prestigious distilleries in the Antilles, enhancing the rich terroir of Marie-Galante. The sugar cane is carefully selected from small local producers, guaranteeing uncompromising quality and authenticity. The cane juice, extracted using two traditional mills, undergoes a long 48-hour fermentation before being meticulously distilled through three Savalle stainless steel columns, ensuring a remarkably refined aromatic profile.
This unique edition of the Old Rums of Marie-Galante is an exceptional Very Old Rum, distilled in 2003 and aged in barrels to reveal all its complexity and intense aromas. Production is strictly limited to 1,470 numbered bottles, making this rum a sought-after collector's item for connoisseurs and discerning enthusiasts.
