TROIS RIVIERES - Single Cask - Vintage 2005 - Barrel No. 4 - Bottled in 2013 - 46.70% ABV
The Trois Rivières Plantation is a jewel of the historical and cultural heritage of Martinique, an emblematic land of authentic agricole rum. Founded in 1660, when Nicolas Fouquet, superintendent of King Louis XIV, acquired 2,000 hectares in the south of the island, the estate has a rich past. In 1785, Etienne Isaïe Marraud Des Grottes, a major landowner in northern Martinique, purchased the lands of Trois Rivières and introduced rum distillation within an operation initially dedicated to sugar production. During the 18th and 19th centuries, the plantation specialized in sugarcane cultivation, then in the 20th century, it focused exclusively on agricole rum production from 1940 onwards. The distillery was bought in 1994 by the B.B.S. company, also owner of La Mauny rums, thus ensuring recognized expertise. In 1996, Trois Rivières obtained the prestigious AOC label (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée martiniquaise), the first and only in the world to guarantee the origin and exceptional quality of Martinique rum. Its name is inspired by the three rivers that naturally irrigate the vast cane fields: Oman, Bois d’Inde, and Saint Pierre.
The production begins with the careful harvesting of sugarcane in February, when their sugar content is optimal. These canes are quickly cut and crushed within 24 hours to preserve the freshness of the vesou, their natural juice. This juice is then placed in open fermentation tanks for 24 to 30 hours, where it is transformed into cane wine through the action of natural yeasts. Distillation takes place in a Creole column still, a traditional process ensuring the finesse and aromatic richness of the rum. Aging is done exclusively in French oak barrels – never exceeding 650 liters – for at least three years, bringing complexity, roundness, and depth.
This unique barrel of aged rum (No. 4) was expertly selected by Daniel Baudin, a cellar master recognized for his expertise. Equipped with a Limousin oak barrel, the rum rested in this cask from June 30, 2005, until its bottling on April 4, 2013. This exceptional edition is limited to only 460 bottles, each offering a rare and refined tasting experience, faithful to the excellence of Martinique tradition.
