LA MAUNY - Vintage 2005 - Wooden Box - 42%
The La Mauny Distillery is an iconic agricultural rum distillery, located in the heart of the northern region of Rivière-Pilote, in Martinique. This historic distillery is part of the renowned Bourdillon, Bellonnie & Successeurs SAS group, a subsidiary of the prestigious Chevrillon group. The incredible story of La Mauny rums begins in 1749 with Ferdinand Poulain, Count of Mauny, originally from Breton nobility and advisor to the King of France, who settled in Martinique. He married the daughter of a local planter who owned an estate in Rivière-Pilote, in the south of the island: the legendary Domaine La Mauny. From 1820, this estate evolved, moving from traditional production of sugar and tafia – the ancestor of rum – to the creation of a true Agricultural Rum made from the pure fresh juice of sugarcane grown on site. A major turning point occurred in 1923 when brothers Théodore and Georges Bellonie took over the estate. Their complementary skills, combining mastery of distillation and commercial expertise, quickly propelled La Mauny to the status of undisputed pioneer in the world of agricultural rum. In 1950, La Mauny became the first brand to export screen-printed and labeled bottles beyond its municipality, opening up to all of Martinique and even mainland France. Today, La Mauny rums benefit from the AOC Rhum De La Martinique designation since 1996, a guarantee of authenticity and exceptional quality. For its rum production, La Mauny carefully selects 5 of the 14 sugarcane varieties authorized by the AOC, sourcing 70% from small local producers committed to sustainable agriculture. The La Mauny House has also distinguished itself as a pioneer by creating an association promoting the island's sugarcane growers, thus contributing to sustainable and solidarity-based development.
