HSE (Habitation Saint Étienne) is an iconic distillery in Martinique, formerly known as Habitation La Maugée, founded in 1863. Originally a traditional Martinican sugar mill, it was transformed into a distillery by Amedée Aubery in 1882. In 1994, Yves and José Hayot took over the property after a difficult period marked by judicial recovery. They undertook significant renovation work that restored Habitation Saint Étienne, now classified as a Historic Monument. Saint-Étienne rum is carefully distilled in a traditional Creole copper column still, a technical gem from the Simon distillery located in François (Martinique), guaranteeing an extraction rich in unique flavors and authentic character.
