LA FAVORITE - La Digue 2020 - 52%
La Favorite is one of the last iconic independent distilleries in Martinique, alongside Neisson, recognized for its ancestral expertise in producing exceptional agricole rums. Founded in 1842 on the remains of an old sugar factory called Les Jambettes, it took the name La Favorite in 1851. In 1909, Henri Dormoy took over the distillery and made major improvements to transform the sugar factory into a true artisanal distillery. Despite a production halt in 1938 due to family events, La Favorite was revived in 1956 under the impetus of André Dormoy, who modernized it while preserving its traditional methods.
Today, La Favorite cultivates sugarcane on 60 hectares and also sources from small local producers, ensuring exceptional quality and authenticity of its rums. The distillery still operates entirely thanks to an original steam engine built in 1906, a living symbol of Martinique's industrial heritage. The vesou (fermented cane juice) is obtained after a long fermentation lasting up to 72 hours, before being distilled in two Creole columns — one copper dating from 1957, the other more modern from 1986, ensuring continuous and precise distillation.
La Favorite La Digue 2020 is the 3rd edition of this exceptional single-variety white rum, from the 2020 harvest of the exclusive 3-hectare plot of roseau cane from La Digue, located behind the distillery. This prestigious cuvée benefits from prolonged fermentation, careful distillation in a copper column, and slow reduction, offering a unique flavor profile combining the natural freshness of sugarcane with delicate notes of roasted almonds.
