LA FAVORITE - Cuvée La Flibuste - Vintage 1998 - 40%
La Favorite is one of the last iconic independent distilleries of Martinique, rivaling the famous Neisson distillery. Founded in 1842 on the ruins of an old sugar factory called Les Jambettes, it took the name La Favorite in 1851. In 1909, after being acquired by Henri Dormoy, the sugar factory was transformed into a distillery thanks to several technical improvements. After a period of inactivity in the 1930s due to family difficulties, notably Albert Dormoy's gambling enthusiasm, Henri's son, La Favorite's activity was relaunched in 1956 by André Dormoy, who undertook a complete renovation of the site.
Today, La Favorite cultivates sugarcane on 60 hectares and also sources from small local producers, ensuring exceptional agricultural quality and optimal traceability. The distillery still operates entirely thanks to a historic steam engine dating from 1906, a symbol of preserved traditional know-how. The vesou, or cane wine, is obtained from a long-fermented cane juice (up to 72 hours). It is then distilled in two Creole columns: one copper, in service since 1957, and the other more modern, built in 1986, guaranteeing an agricole rum with a unique character.
The exceptional cuvée La Flibuste is an Hors d’Âge agricole rum, benefiting from careful aging in carefully selected Cognac oak barrels. This process gives the rum a deep aromatic richness with notes of melted tannins, roasted and vanilla aromas, hints of candied fruits, as well as a warm and licorice finish that delights discerning enthusiasts.
