BIELLE - Cask Strength 2014 - Bottled 2021 - 56.9% ABV
The Bielle distillery is ideally located on the paradisiacal island of Marie-Galante, a gem of the French Antilles. Founded in 1769 by Jean-Pierre Bielle, who was then cultivating coffee, the estate has evolved over the centuries. In 1826, his sons created a refinery-sugar factory covering 53 hectares, thus laying the foundations for the iconic rum production. However, the true rise of the estate began at the start of the 20th century. After a period of abandonment following World War II, the distillery was revived thanks to the acquisition by Paul Rameaux in 1955, then taken over in 1975 by the SEDB (Société d’Exploitation de la Distillerie Bielle). Today, the Bielle distillery is one of the most prestigious and respected in the Antilles, recognized for the exceptional quality of its traditional agricole rums. The sugarcane used comes exclusively from small local producers, ensuring authenticity and traceability. The cane juice is extracted using two traditional mills, then fermented for a long 48 hours to reveal all its aromatic richness before being delicately distilled in three elegant stainless steel Savalle columns.
This exceptional rum was distilled in 2014 and meticulously bottled 7 years later, in 2021, after careful aging in ex-Bourbon barrels which provide structure and depth. To perfect its balance and complexity, it was then refined in sweet white wine barrels, giving this cask strength rum unique gourmand and fruity notes. Bottled at cask strength, at 56.9% alcohol, this rum is a true gem for enthusiasts wishing to discover the authenticity and richness of the agricole rums from Clos des Spiritueux, an essential reference for passionate connoisseurs seeking excellence and authentic flavors.
