MONTEBELLO - Zenga Old 6 years - 46%
The Montebello rum is an exceptional agricole rum crafted by the renowned Carrère distillery, located in Petit-Bourg in Guadeloupe, a unique terroir with rich rum-making traditions. The Carrère distillery, better known as the Montebello distillery, takes its name from the rums produced since 1975, in tribute to the historic Montebello district where it is established. Founded in 1930 by the Dolomie family, this family business continues a prestigious artisanal know-how. Since December 2011, Grégory and Dominique Marsolle have ensured the continuity and innovation of the family business, thus guaranteeing the quality and authenticity of the rums offered.
Promoting an exemplary eco-responsible approach, the distillery has been committed since 2012 to the complete recycling of sugarcane residues. It notably uses dry bagasse, the fibrous residue from cane crushing, as a natural fuel to power the steam that drives the presses. This ecological process highlights Montebello's sustainable commitment to environmental protection.
For the production of its rum, the Montebello distillery stands out by the 100% manual harvesting of sugarcane, coming exclusively from the privileged volcanic regions of Petit-Bourg, Goyave, Basse-Terre, Lamentin, and Sainte-Rose. Moreover, Montebello is proud to be among the last distilleries in the Caribbean still using traditional steam machines, thus guaranteeing an infusion of authentic and unparalleled flavors.
The Zenga cuvée takes its name from the Zenga rooster, a strong symbol recalling the ancestral tradition of fighting roosters in local culture. This exceptional old rum is the result of a meticulous blend of several selected barrels, patiently aged for more than 6 years in oak barrels, offering a complex aromatic richness and remarkable finesse.
