Karukera is a prestigious rum distillery located in Sainte-Marie, in the heart of Guadeloupe, within the historic estate of the Marquisat de Sainte-Marie. Since 2005, under the visionary leadership of François Longueteau, who took over the family legacy by buying the agricultural estate and the renowned Espérance distillery from his father, the tradition and excellence of Guadeloupe agricultural rum have been passionately upheld. The distillery first distinguished itself by producing white and amber rums, marketed under two emblematic brands, Mon Repos and Longueteau, which embody the heritage of a family deeply rooted in the art of distillation.
At the same time, Grégoire Hayot, an engineer by training and then financial director at Damoiseau, played a key role in modernizing production tools and building an innovative aging cellar in 2005. Ambitious and passionate, he wished to develop an authentic production of aged agricultural rums in Guadeloupe. His search for a distillery that perfectly controls the freshness and quality of its sugarcane supply naturally led him to partner with François Longueteau. Together, they founded the Marquisat de Sainte-Marie company, symbolizing their shared commitment.
November 2, 2006, marked a major milestone with the first aging of Karukera, using Longueteau distillates stored in 87 carefully selected 310-liter barrels supplied by Seguin Moreau. From 2007, Karukera inaugurated its own cellar, equipped with innovative aging spaces, a white rum refining workshop, packaging and storage facilities, as well as a modern laboratory. The site is also designed for tourism and offers a boutique dedicated to enthusiasts and collectors.
This exceptional agricultural rum, distilled in 1999, benefits from prolonged and exclusive aging in small barrels that previously contained Bourbon, imparting unmatched finesse and aromatic complexity. It is bottled at its natural strength, without any addition or blending, thus guaranteeing total purity and authenticity.
