MONTEBELLO - 24 years old - Cuvée Prestige - Vintage 1982 - 42% ABV
The Montebello rum is an exceptional agricole rum crafted by the renowned Carrère distillery, located in Petit-Bourg in Guadeloupe. Known for its traditional expertise, the Carrère distillery is more commonly called the Montebello distillery, the name under which its rums have been marketed since 1975, in tribute to the historic district where it is established. Founded in 1930 by the prestigious Dolomie family, this distillery continues a family tradition of quality. Since December 2011, management has been led by Grégory and Dominique Marsolle, who have modernized production while respecting ancestral methods.
Innovative and committed to an ecological approach, the Montebello distillery launched in 2012 a complete recycling process of the residues from sugarcane crushing. Indeed, it uses dry bagasse – the fibrous residue – as fuel to power the steam boiler, thus operating the presses that extract cane juice with remarkable efficiency, while reducing its carbon footprint.
What particularly distinguishes Montebello rum is the exclusive use of hand-harvested canes, coming from the unique volcanic terroirs of Petit-Bourg, Goyave, Basse-Terre, Lamentin, and Sainte-Rose. These rich soils give the rum an unparalleled aromatic complexity, blending finesse and intensity. Moreover, the Montebello distillery remains one of the few distilleries in the Caribbean still using traditional steam machines, proof of a deep commitment to authenticity and artisanal excellence.
