KARUKERA - Old agricole rum - 42%
Karukera is a prestigious distillery located in Sainte-Marie, in the heart of Guadeloupe, within the historic estate of the Marquisat de Sainte-Marie. In 2005, François Longueteau took over the family business by buying from his father the agricultural estate as well as the Espérance distillery, nestled in the center of the estate, with the ambition to preserve and enhance the authenticity and richness of the Guadeloupe terroir. The distillery then specialized in the production of white and amber rums, emblematic thanks to the renowned brands Mon Repos and Longueteau, which tell a story of passion and family tradition.
Grégoire Hayot, an engineer by training and then financial director at Damoiseau, a renowned distillery in Guadeloupe, played a key role in modernizing the facilities and creating a modern aging cellar in 2005. Driven by the desire to exercise unique expertise in the production of old agricole rum, Grégoire sought a distillery combining precise mastery and optimal freshness of sugarcane supply, an essential base for a superior quality rum. This strategic choice naturally led to a fruitful partnership with François Longueteau, beginning the foundation of the Marquisat de Sainte-Marie company. November 2, 2006, marked a decisive step with the first aging of Karukera rums, using 87 carefully selected 310-liter barrels supplied by the prestigious cooper Seguin Moreau, ensuring optimal refinement.
In 2007, Karukera invested in the construction of its dedicated aging cellar, integrating several functional spaces: a controlled aging area, a refinement workshop to enhance white rum, a bottling workshop, storage areas, a laboratory for rigorous quality control, as well as a tourist reception area and a shop allowing the public to discover and purchase these liquid treasures directly at the source.
The Karukera Old Rum stands out for meticulous aging of more than 3 years in small barrels, former Bourbon barrels, which give this rum an exceptional aromatic complexity, with woody, vanilla, and spicy notes, symbolizing a craft excellence recognized worldwide.
