RHUM DEPAZ - Cuvée Victor Depaz - 41%
The Depaz distillery was born in the heart of the La Montagne estate, located in Saint-Pierre, not far from the legendary Montagne Pelée in Martinique. Founded in 1651 by Jacques Duparquet, the island's first governor, this distillery embodies a rich ancestral tradition of producing exceptional agricole rum. The Depaz distillery takes its name from the Depaz family, who were a key local player in rum production until the tragedy of 1902 when the devastating eruption of Montagne Pelée claimed almost all its members, except Victor Depaz, then a student in Bordeaux and left an orphan. Fifteen years later, driven by passion and resilience, Victor Depaz revived the estate from its ashes by rebuilding the Habitation Périnelle of his childhood identically. Quickly, the exceptional quality of Depaz rums, made from sugarcane grown on uniquely rich volcanic soils and water of remarkable purity, became known worldwide. Rooted in its traditions, the Depaz distillery is one of the smallest in Martinique, always carrying at its heart the authentic breath of an old steam engine, a living symbol of its heritage.
The Victor Depaz cuvée pays vibrant tribute to this great man who gave new life to this prestigious family distillery. This rum is the result of a careful blend of small casks that previously contained Bourbon, giving it a deep aromatic complexity. The aging, which lasts between 3 and 4 years depending on the batches, subtly balances the intense freshness of the eaux-de-vie with elegant woody notes. This cuvée offers a rich and refined tasting experience, ideal for enthusiasts seeking an exceptional agricole rum, combining tradition, unique terroir, and artisanal know-how.
