TROIS RIVIERES - Bois d'Inde - Vintage 2007 - 42%
The Trois Rivières Plantation is an essential part of the rich historical heritage of Martinique, an emblematic land of high-quality agricole rum. Since 1660, Nicolas Fouquet, superintendent to King Louis XIV, took possession of 2,000 hectares of land located in the south of the island, thus laying the foundations of an exceptional agricultural tradition. In 1785, Etienne Isaïe Marraud Des Grottes, an influential landowner from northern Martinique, acquired these lands and transformed the initial sugar production by incorporating rum production, giving rise to an ever-renewed expertise. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the plantation was mainly dedicated to sugarcane cultivation before specializing, from the early 20th century, exclusively in agricole rum production from 1940. In 1994, the Trois Rivières distillery joined the B.B.S. company, already recognized for La Mauny rums, thus strengthening its image of excellence. Two years later, Trois Rivières earned the prestigious AOC label (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée martiniquaise), a unique status worldwide for a rum, guaranteeing its authenticity and origin. The name Trois Rivières derives its identity from the three rivers surrounding these vast cane fields: Oman, Bois d’Inde, and Saint Pierre, living symbols of this exceptional terroir.
The artisanal know-how of the distillery is expressed from the harvesting of sugarcane, carried out in February, when the sugar content reaches its peak. Cutting and crushing are done within less than 24 hours to ensure optimal freshness of the juice. The vesou, this precious cane juice, is then fermented in large open vats for 24 to 30 hours. The magic happens with natural yeasts that transform the juice into cane wine, a prelude to meticulous distillation in a Creole column still, guaranteeing a powerful and refined rum. Aging then takes place slowly in oak barrels with a maximum capacity of 650 liters, offering the rum maturity and exceptional aromas for at least 3 years, anchoring this tradition in oenological and gustatory excellence.
Trois Rivières Bois d’Inde is the direct heir of the Oriental Trois Rivières Oman. This exceptional vintage is the result of a unique blend of 11 Great Vintages carefully aged in French and American oak barrels, distinguished by the rare and prestigious 1979 vintage, bringing complexity and richness to the aromatic profile, ideal for connoisseurs and enthusiasts of exceptional rums.
