TROIS RIVIERES - Aged Rum - Vintage 1999 - 42% ABV
The Plantation of Trois Rivières is an essential part of the historical and cultural heritage of Martinique, a jewel of the French Antilles. Founded in 1660, Nicolas Fouquet, superintendent of King Louis XIV, granted himself 2,000 hectares of fertile land located in the south of the island. In 1785, Etienne Isaïe Marraud Des Grottes, a wealthy landowner from northern Martinique, acquired the Trois Rivières plantation and diversified production by adding rum manufacturing to the local sugar tradition. Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, the plantation specialized in sugarcane cultivation for sugar production. From the beginning of the 20th century, it developed the production of Agricole rum, which became exclusive from 1940 onwards, establishing the distillery as one of the major references for Martinique rum.
In 1994, the Trois Rivières distillery was purchased by the B.B.S. company, already owner of the prestigious La Mauny rums, thereby strengthening its expertise and reputation. In 1996, Trois Rivières was awarded the prestigious AOC label (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée Martiniquaise), a guarantee of authenticity and exceptional quality. To this day, it is the only rum in the world benefiting from a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), attesting to its unbreakable link with its unique terroir. Its emblematic name evokes the three rivers that cross the vast sugarcane fields: Oman, Bois d’Inde, and Saint Pierre, true sources of inspiration for this exceptional production.
The manufacturing process respects a rigorous traditional know-how, starting at the optimal harvest time in February, when the sugar levels in the canes are at their highest. The canes are carefully cut and crushed within 24 hours to preserve the quality of the juice: the vesou. This cane juice is transferred into open vats where it ferments between 24 and 30 hours thanks to natural yeasts, transforming into a cane wine rich in aromas. This wine is then distilled in a Creole column still, guaranteeing the finesse and aromatic complexity typical of quality agricole rums. Aging takes place in oak barrels (maximum capacity of 650 liters) for at least 3 years, giving the rum a unique richness, roundness, and maturity.
Trois Rivières Vintage 1999 proudly represents the oldest vintage rum produced by the Estate. This exceptional vintage is the result of a meticulous blend of two vats, selected for their character and balance, then aged in ex-Bourbon oak barrels. The result: a rum of remarkable complexity, sure to delight connoisseurs seeking authenticity and aromatic depth.
