LA FAVORITE - Vintage 2011 - 49.7%
La Favorite is one of the last iconic independent distilleries of Martinique, alongside Neisson. Founded in 1842 on the remains of an old sugar factory called Les Jambettes, it took the name La Favorite in 1851. In 1909, Henri Dormoy became its owner and made several major improvements, transforming the sugar factory into a renowned distillery. Despite a production halt in 1938 due to some upheavals linked to Albert Dormoy's (Henri's son) gambling habits, the distillery was revived in 1956 thanks to André Dormoy, the younger brother, who undertook a complete renovation.
Today, La Favorite cultivates sugarcane on more than 60 hectares and also sources from small passionate local producers, thus guaranteeing uncompromising quality and authenticity. Its production remains deeply traditional, using a historic steam engine dating back to 1906, which gives it a unique character. The vesou (cane juice), resulting from a long fermentation lasting up to 72 hours, is distilled in 2 distinct Creole columns: one copper, in service since 1957, and the other more modern, installed in 1986, allowing a blend of tradition and technology in each batch.
The La Favorite Vintage 2011 rum is an aged agricole rum Hors d’Âge, bottled in December 2019. It benefits from carefully orchestrated aging in a refined selection of Cognac and Bourbon barrels, bringing exceptional complexity. This vintage stands out for its intense aromatic richness, revealing subtle notes of candied fruits, exotic spices, as well as delicate touches of roasted coffee and gourmet vanilla, offering an unparalleled sensory experience for lovers of exceptional rums.
