BIELLE - White Rum - Grey Cane - 59%
Bielle is ideally located on the paradisiacal island of Marie-Galante, nicknamed the island of 100 mills for its rich agricultural heritage and authentic landscapes. The prestigious history of Bielle begins in 1769 when Jean-Pierre Bielle cultivated coffee there. Later, in 1826, his sons founded a refinery-sugar factory covering 53 hectares, firmly establishing the local sugar tradition. Rum production on the estate started at the beginning of the 20th century. The property changed hands several times; in 1935, Félix Bicoto built the main house, now emblematic of the site. After World War II, the estate was abandoned until Paul Rameaux bought it in 1956. However, it was Dominique Thierry, his visionary engineer great-nephew, who took charge of the Société d’Exploitation de la Distillerie Bielle (S.E.D.B.). Over 40 years, the distillery became one of the most renowned in the French Antilles.
The sugarcane cultivated comes both from the estate and from small local producers, some of whom maintain traditional methods such as transporting the cane via the cabrouet, an authentic ox cart that is a source of pride for the terroir. On site, two mechanical mills extract the cane juices which then naturally ferment for 48 hours before meticulous distillation using three stainless steel Savalle columns. The white rum is bottled at its historical strength of 59°, guaranteeing a powerful and authentic taste, or carefully aged in cellars to develop complexity and finesse.
This cuvée Bielle - 100% Grey Cane is made from a very rustic variety of sugarcane, originating from the island of Barbados, known for its slow and rigorous growth which gives it exceptional drought resistance. The Grey Cane is perfectly adapted to the climate and soil of Marie-Galante, thus offering a unique terroir fully reflected in this singular white rum. This rum stands out for its intense fruity aromas and exceptional richness, offering a different and refined tasting experience, far from standard productions. It is a must-have for lovers of exceptional agricultural rums.
