OLD BROTHERS - Exceptional aged rum - Bielle - Bourbon barrel proof - 8 years aging - 53.6% ABV
The Bielle distillery is located on the paradisiacal island of Marie-Galante, nicknamed the island of 100 mills. Its history dates back to 1769, when Jean-Pierre Bielle initially cultivated coffee there. In 1826, his sons partnered to establish a refinery-sugar factory on 53 hectares, marking the beginning of a unique sugar and rum tradition. Rum production truly began at the start of the 20th century. The estate changed hands several times: in 1935, Félix Bicoto built the current main house, while after World War II, the distillery was abandoned. In 1956, Paul Rameaux bought the estate, but it was his visionary grandnephew Dominique Thierry, an engineer, who revitalized the Société d’Exploitation de la Distillerie Bielle (S.E.D.B.). Over four decades, the distillery became one of the most prestigious in the French Antilles.
The sugarcane comes from the estate's unique terroir as well as from small local producers, some still using the traditional cabrouet (ox cart) to transport the precious canes. At the distillery, two modern mills extract the cane juices, which ferment for 48 hours to reveal complex aromas before distillation. Three stainless steel Savalle columns ensure a distillation of rare purity. The rum is then bottled at its historic strength of 59°, guaranteeing its intensity and typicity, or aged in cellars for delicate and deep maturation.
Clos des Spiritueux offers you this gem of agricole rum, an exceptional vintage Old Brothers, symbolizing Martinican refinement and know-how.
