RHUM DEPAZ - Aged Rum - Cask Strength 2005 - 58.2% ABV
The Depaz distillery, a true gem located at the heart of the La Montagne estate in Saint-Pierre, near the majestic Montagne Pelée, was founded in 1651 under the visionary leadership of Jacques Duparquet, the first governor of the island of Martinique. The Depaz house takes its name from Victor Depaz, whose family naturally became a key player in local rum production. In 1902, tragically, the eruption of Montagne Pelée destroyed almost the entire family, except Victor, who was then a student in Bordeaux, an orphan forced to rebuild a precious heritage. Fifteen years after this catastrophe, he resurrected the Habitation Périnelle from its ashes, faithful to the old architecture and ancestral traditions. The Depaz distillery quickly established itself as an international symbol of quality, thanks to its rums made from sugarcane grown on exceptionally rich volcanic soil, irrigated by water of rare purity. Guardian of traditional know-how, this distillery is among the smallest in Martinique and continues to operate thanks to an authentic old steam engine, a symbol of a preserved past.
This Cask Strength edition comes from the exceptional 2005 vintage. The rum, bottled at its natural powerful strength of 58.2% alcohol without any dilution, expresses all the strength and finesse of a mastered aging process. Cask No. 503 yielded only 485 bottles, making this cuvée a rarity prized by collectors and discerning connoisseurs. A unique tasting experience not to be missed for lovers of exceptional rums.
