The Bologne distillery, founded in 1887 in Guadeloupe, a jewel of the French Antilles, thrives in an idyllic setting between turquoise sea and lush mountains. It benefits from a remarkable volcanic terroir, ideal for cultivating sugarcane of exceptional quality. The uniqueness of Bologne rums results from the unique combination of several natural elements: pure spring water from the heights, optimal sun exposure throughout the year, volcanic soils rich in minerals essential for the well-being of the cane, and a marine iodized air that gives these rums a subtle and incomparable saline touch. It is this natural alchemy that creates all the magic and authenticity of Bologne rums.
But Bologne does not stop there: this universe is also marked by the rare presence of the Black Cane. This is an ancient variety of sugarcane long abandoned due to its low sugar production. Yet, far from being limited to quantity, the quality of its juice is simply exceptional. Bologne is the only distillery on the island to preserve and still exploit these ancestral canes, revealing an extraordinary aromatic potential that today integrates its entire emblematic range, notably its famous Black Cane cuvée, recognized worldwide for its originality and finesse.
The Bologne 1887 cuvée, produced in a limited edition to celebrate the distillery's 130th anniversary, is the result of a rigorous selection orchestrated by cellar master Frédéric David. His goal: to offer an exceptional aged rum representative of the pinnacle of Bologne's expertise. Presented in a sumptuous box, this prestigious decanter gradually reveals its treasures during tasting. Its amber robe, deep and luminous, already foreshadows the richness of the nectar. On the nose, complex fruity aromas unfold, intertwining delicate notes of stone fruits, freshly picked orange zest, as well as expertly balanced citrus peels. On the palate, the tasting is both powerful and voluptuous, with indulgent flavors of dried fruits, enhanced by a subtle essence of vanilla, before concluding with an elegant and long rancio finish, a distinctive character of great exceptional rums.
