La Favorite is one of the last iconic independent distilleries in Martinique, alongside Neisson. Founded in 1842 on the ruins of an old sugar factory called Les Jambettes, it adopted the name La Favorite in 1851. In 1909, Henri Dormoy acquired the distillery and implemented many innovative improvements to transform the original sugar factory into a renowned distillery. Despite a production halt in the late 1930s, partly due to the gambling troubles of Albert Dormoy, Henri's son, La Favorite resumed operations in 1956 thanks to André Dormoy, Albert's younger brother, who undertook a complete renovation of the facilities.
Today, La Favorite cultivates sugarcane on nearly 60 hectares and also sources from small local producers. It still operates exclusively with a historic steam engine dating back to 1906, which remains in perfect working condition. The vesou, a carefully fermented cane wine over an extended period of up to 72 hours, is then distilled in two traditional Creole columns: one entirely copper, in service since 1957, and a second more modern one dating from 1986.
This La Favorite Vintage Cuvée 2010 benefits from exceptional aging in a rigorous selection of the finest ex-Cognac barrels from La Favorite's cellars. This cask-strength rum is bottled at its natural strength following a racking carried out in 2018, showcasing a remarkable 52.8° ABV.
