LA FAVORITE - White Rum - La Digue - Vintage 2018 - 52%
La Favorite is one of the last iconic independent distilleries of Martinique, alongside Neisson, recognized for its commitment to quality and authenticity. Founded in 1842 on the remains of an old sugar factory called Les Jambettes, it took the name La Favorite in 1851. In 1909, Henri Dormoy acquired the estate and made significant improvements, transforming the old sugar factory into an exceptional traditional distillery. After a hiatus due to personal issues of Albert Dormoy in the late 1930s, the distillery was revived in 1956 thanks to his younger brother André, who undertook a complete renovation. Today, La Favorite cultivates sugarcane on 60 hectares, also sourcing from passionate local small producers. The distillery still operates with a precious 1906 steam engine, symbolizing artisanal know-how and respected tradition. The vesou (sugarcane juice) is obtained by slow fermentation, up to 72 hours, and distilled in two Creole columns, one entirely made of copper dating from 1957, while the other, more modern, operating since 1986, ensures optimal distillation quality.
