LA FAVORITE - Exceptional Aged Rum - Cuvée La Flibuste - Vintage 1993 - 40% ABV
La Favorite is one of the last iconic independent distilleries of Martinique, alongside Neisson. Founded in 1842 on the ruins of an old sugar factory called Les Jambettes, it adopted the name La Favorite in 1851. In 1909, Henri Dormoy became its owner and gradually transformed the sugar factory into a renowned distillery. After several ups and downs, notably related to Albert Dormoy's passion for gambling, Henri's son, La Favorite suspended its activities in 1938. It was only in 1956 that André Dormoy, his younger brother, relaunched the operation with a complete renovation. Today, La Favorite cultivates sugarcane on 60 hectares while sourcing from small local producers. The distillery still operates thanks to a historic steam engine built in 1906, symbolizing its heritage and quest for authenticity. The vesou – this precious cane wine slowly fermented for up to 72 hours – is distilled in two Creole columns, one made of copper dating from 1957, and a more modern one installed in 1986, ensuring incomparable quality and uniqueness.
The Cuvée Flibuste from La Favorite ranks among the most prestigious aged rums, consolidating the international reputation of the house. This 1993 vintage has patiently aged for 26 years in oak barrels that previously held Cognac, under the expert supervision of Cellar Master Robert Charles. The wood, imbued with the rich, complex, and delicately smooth aromas of Cognac, imparts to this exceptional rum a unique and refined aromatic depth. Each year, this Cuvée Flibuste is released in a limited series of 6,000 bottles, all carefully blended, waxed, and hand-numbered, highlighting its artisanal character and precious authenticity.
