La Favorite is one of the last independent distilleries in Martinique, alongside Neisson, recognized for its traditional expertise and commitment to the authentic quality of Martinique rum. Founded in 1842 on the remains of an old sugar factory called Les Jambettes, it became La Favorite in 1851. Acquired by Henri Dormoy in 1909, it then underwent significant improvements to transform this old sugar factory into a renowned distillery. After a halt in activity around 1938 caused by Albert Dormoy's personal affairs, the distillery was revived in 1956 thanks to André Dormoy, who completely renovated it.
Today, La Favorite cultivates 60 hectares of sugarcane and also sources from small local producers, favoring sustainable and environmentally respectful agriculture. The distillery still operates entirely thanks to a century-old steam engine, built in 1906 and still fully efficient, a true symbol of artisanal tradition. The vesou (cane wine), derived from cane juice slowly fermented for up to 72 hours, is distilled in two distinct Creole columns: one entirely made of copper, used since 1957, and the other more modern dating from 1986, ensuring optimal distillation quality.
The Favorite Rivière Bel Air Harvest 2017 is an exceptional rum benefiting from the AOC Martinique designation, guaranteeing a rigorously controlled origin and production. This rum is doubly unique, as it is both vintage and single-varietal, meaning it comes from a single variety of sugarcane, the red cane (B64.277). This exceptional terroir, located along a river and bathed by the gentle trade winds, gives it its distinctive name Rivière Bel Air, as well as a rich and balanced taste identity.
This 2017 vintage was produced in a limited edition of only 10,000 bottles, making each bottle a true treasure for enthusiasts and collectors of exceptional rums.
